Soon... don't worry
I know I need to blog, I just don't know what to blog about.. I'm thinking, and I'll get back to you about that. I hate posting boring things. I just haven't had a funny thought to blog about yet. Soon... soon, don't worry.

I'm out of minutes?
So last night someone knocked on our door. Tim went to answer it and then asked me to get his cell phone. Apparently, there was a lady at our door that needed to use a phone. I thought maybe something was wrong, or that she was in trouble and needed some help. Then she sat on our porch and called someone and had a normal conversation. Finally, about 10 minutes later she started smoking so Tim went outside to ask her to stop. Then he said (and he was very nice about it), "Are you about done? Those are my minutes too." She hung up pretty quickly after that. I asked Tim what she had said when she first knocked on the door. He said that he had asked if her phone had died and she said that she was just out of minutes. So thinking that she really needed to make an important phone call, he let her use his phone.
Now we're thinking, as she didn't make an "important" call (we could hear her talking because our windows were open and trust me, the phone call was NOT important), she just wanted to use someone else's minutes. How weird is that?
Apparently it's totally kosher to use up your own cell minutes and then go to a strangers house and ask them to use their phone for a casual conversation. ???
Shoot, if that's the case, I'm going to stop using my own bathroom so we don't use as much toilet paper and I don't have to spend time cleaning bathrooms. While I'm at it, maybe I'll cook in someone else's kitchen too-- that way I don't have to buy my own groceries or do the dishes!
Maybe that lady was on to something...

The GynoMonster
So I was thinking about it, and I decided, why not blog about it? I mean, I've already scared away all of the men anyways. What do I have to lose at this point? (Is this where I've crossed the line between Family Blog and Personal Blog? Don't worry, I'll try not to do this again.)
So I will. No worries-- there are no terrifying details here... I was just thinking about the experience as a whole, and decided it is an interesting thing.
Why, if it is so necessary to do atleast once a year, do we not figure out a way to make it more comfortable and less awkward?
I mean, maybe your experiences are different than mine, but really... well, here's how I would describe it...
I arrived and sat in the waiting room with Brooklyn for a while. She was completely freaked out by the whole doctor scene. I don't know why, but she was a grump and none to happy about accompanying me.
Finally my name was called and I followed the nurse down the hall and into a room where she pointed out my robe and sheet. I situated Brooklyn on the floor with every book I had stuffed into her bag. I also opened two fruit snacks, and dumped out all of the other toys. She needed things to occupy her. Then I de-robed and quickly grabbed my robe and sheet. I mean, you've got to be quick right? You never know when the doctor is going to walk back in, and I'll be darned if I'm still going to be in the de-robing process.
So I picked up the "robe" to put it on. When I think of a robe I think of a fuzzy bathrobe... comfort really. THIS, was not that kind of robe. I attempted to figure out which way the thing was to be put on. In hindsight, it probably didn't matter. I'd be willing to bet everything that this "robe" could have fit 4 grown men inside it, without their having to touch at all. That's fine, but then I saw the "robe ties" at the front of it. Now, what is the point of having robe ties if the robe is big enough to wrap around 4 men? Clearly, tying the ties isn't going to do anybody any good. So instead, I wrapped the "robe" around, and around, and around... Then I picked up the "sheet", which was to go over my legs. I wasn't too concerned about this as my "robe" went past my knees, but for the sake of tradition, I decided to figure the "sheet" out. Turns out, the "Sheet" was really more of a paper towel. A big paper towel, but a paper towel nonetheless. (I wonder if they feel better about the situation if they refer to them as "robes" and "sheets." Like you're at a spa or something.) Anyways. Then I sat on the ever-so-comfortable, and very quiet paper. The whole time, Brooklyn is going nuts, fussing and... well, probably voicing her concern about my "robe" and "sheet." Of course, there was nothing I could do to comfort her-- I mean, I was sitting on the paper in my "robe" and "sheet" and you better believe I wasn't about to hop down and try to help her find another toy. What if that was when the doctor decided to walk in?! So I didn't. She had to fend for herself.
Soon there were fruit snacks strewn around the room, and I decided that if he hadn't come in the room in 20 minutes, why would he come in after 21 minutes? So I hopped down and tried to help Brooklyn. Actually, we read a book, "robe" and all. I didn't dilly-dally of course, the doctor would be there "any minute," so I hopped back on the table and arranged my "robe" and "sheet" just in time.
Nice doctor-- no complaints. But isn't it funny how the doctor tries to carry on a normal conversation during an exam? Ha. It happens every time, "so where are you from? how old is your daughter? what does your husband do?..." You know, like we're having a normal conversation over dinner--- only this is NOT dinner. And we are NOT friends. And frankly, I have no idea how I answered any of the questions. I was distracted by Brooklyn's screaming and the rest of it.
Ugh, thank goodness we don't have to do this more often. I mean, it's fine, and it's good. It's a good thing we have doctors to help us stay healthy. I just... I've always wanted to ask my doctor and I never have: What on earth would possess you to want to be a gynocologist when you grew up? I mean, who aspires to THAT? Do you realize that people like my husband refer to you as the "gyno-monster"?
I think maybe I'll ask next time...

Some things are better left unspoken?
Don't you hate it when you have something either so funny or maybe just so noteworthy that you know there is no place other than your blog that you should share it, yet, you know it is completely inappropriate and should never be published in a place where the whole world can read it?
*sigh*
Such is my predicament today. Clearly, whoever said, "some things are better left unspoken" has A LOT of good stories to tell.
Ok, Ok, I know you're dying to know what I'm talking about. This post did come about because of today, but it's made me think about all of the past times that I have wanted SO BADLY to blog about something (usually something so hysterical I'm sure you'd be hooked to reading my blog if I posted it), but know that I really shouldn't.
All I will say about today is this. You know how women tell you to find a gynecologist that you feel "comfortable" with? Question: When are you EVER comfortable at the gynecologist's office? Honestly...
Too much said already... I have now scared away any and all male readers. My apologies :)

I'm thinking about writing a book.
I've been thinking about this since I was pregnant with Brooklyn (no, I am not pregnant right now). I'm not sure what the title would be... I'm still working on that. Originally I thought I might just write about the things that I learned during pregnancy. But now that I have a toddler, I think maybe it should be a book about the things you learn during motherhood. There would be different sections based on the different ages of children. First section would be : things I learned during pregnancy. Second section: Things I learned While I had an infant. Third: Things I learned while I had a toddler. Fourth: Things I learned while I had a child... then teenager, then young adult. What do you think?
I would definitely need input from lots of mothers. So really it would be a compilation of things learned. Here's my work-in-process of things I learned while pregnant. I would really appreciate additions to this list. And one day, when it's published, you can say you were part of my multi-million dollar book.
Things I learned Throughout Motherhood
A compilation of thoughts from the sane, and insane
Section 1: Things I Learned During Pregnancy and Soon After Child-Birth

- Eat healthy-- but sometimes you have to eat whatever doesn't make you think of vomitting
- I never "glowed"
- The weightlessness of being in a pool is wonderful
- You don't think you could ever be in enough pain to want a stranger to stick a 12 inch needle in your spine, but you will
- You will probably want a stash of Tums everywhere. This includes the kitchen, bathroom, nightstand, car, purse, pockets, porch, family room, and hall closet
- You will get fat, and possibly even in every place that you never thought could even accumulate fat, like your ears for example
- It is worth spending whatever it costs to buy some maternity clothes that you feel "cute" in
- "Cute" is relative
- Just because you were noble enough to carry a baby for nine months and then give birth does not mean that the pounds will come off easier than the last time you tried to lost weight
- You will still look VERY pregnant when you leave the hospital
- You will never think you have enough money or stuff to have a baby, so don't let that be a deciding factor.
- The handicap bathroom stalls will eventually be necessary because of your size. On the up side, they also have hand rails to help you stand back up again
- At your 6 week checkup after birth, the doctor will probably tell you that everything looks "normal." It is normal to completely disagree.
- For some reason, people don't judge pregnant women for more-than-normal bodily sounds. You may want to take advantage of this.
- It's ok to let dishes pile up in your kitchen
- When those piles of dishes start smelling and you can't handle it, call a cleaning company.
- If you can't afford a cleaning company, spray body-spray on a towel, wrap it around your face, and proceed to clean. Keep a vomit bucket nearby.
- Using an electric toothrush may make you nausious
- Make sure someone throws a baby shower for you
- Your husband will tell you that you're beautiful when you don't feel so beautiful. Listen to him.
- Read-- while you still have time
- Sleep-- while you still have time
- Eat-- while you still have time
- Shower-- while you still have time
- Take profile pictures of your growing belly. They will be fun to look back at.
- You won't care who sees you naked when you're in hard labor.
- "I'm eating for two" doesn't make sense when your baby is smaller than a bean. In fact, it doesn't make sense ever-- however, this doesn't mean you can't say and do it.
- You will have to urinate every time you go to the doctor. Don't go before you leave home.
- Find a doctor that you like. He will be seeing a lot of you
- When you hold your baby for the first time, you will realize it was all worth it
So that's all I have for now. Any more ideas?
I guess I should start working on sections two and three now.

I look single :(

I had to take my ring in today to have a few necessary fixes. I hate doing this. Not only am I surrendering my most valuable material possession to a complete stranger for an unknown period of time, but I look single.
And you know what I noticed? After running errands without my ring on... I think I'm treated differently when I am not wearing a ring, ESPECIALLY when I am toting a baby around with me. Of course, this could just be my imagination, but I think I am on to something here.
So next time you see a ring-less woman running errands with kids hanging all over her... don't judge. Maybe her ring is being cleaned or fixed.
I guess I'll take these next two weeks and work on my finger tan.
It's the end of the world as we know it
Today I walked into Walmart and saw stirrup pants on the rack. I know, Walmart may not be the best place to get a sense of what the current fashion trends are, but nonetheless they were there. And they were not on the rack that they are trying to pay people to buy clothes off of. They were, in fact, on the rack for you to PAY for them. I think we're digressing as a species. How can we revert back to stirrup pants?!
I realize that leggings have been in style for a while now. I only have this to say about them-- they are cute, SOMETIMES, on little girls and on too-skinny young women when paired with a babydoll shirt. The majority of the success being found on the little girls... However, if a person wanted to wear leggings, or in this case, stirrup pants (which are in fact a digresion from leggings), I wonder why they wouldn't skip wearing pants all together and just paint their legs the desired color? It would have the same effect.
The thing I am most of afraid of, is that next week I will see loose t-shirts, paired with matching scrunchies to tie up the corner of the t-shirt. This would, as you know, go very nicely with the pair of leggings. And for your workout, don't forget to grab a pair of leg warmers!
I need to be blunt now. Despite what all of you stirrup people think, this is not what you look like wearing stirrup pants--
I'm not saying you're fat, I'm just saying you should stay away from the stirrup pants. There are very few places in this world where stirrups are needed, and on your pants is NOT one of those places.
I'm just warning you. Do not, under any circumstances, pay for, or wear the pants. If you do, I'm afraid I may have to pretend I don't know you.

Stirrup pants do not magically make your backside skinny, and your legs long. If this were the case, they would never have gone out of style.
Instead, you will look something like this.

Update on Brooklyn
I know Brooklyn hasn't hit a major milestone, but I thought I'd document a few things she likes and does now, just for memories sake.
-likes to sing songs with you
-thinks she is the funniest person she knows
-runs to the door when daddy comes home
-will read and read and read books with you until you're completely read out
-likes to find her belly button, and yours
-plays pretend with her baby and other stuffed animals
-likes to be outside
-gives kisses!
-likes to dance
-likes to watch a movie with her ba-ba (bottle)
-likes to look at your teeth
-talks on the cellphone, ONLY when nobody is really on the phone talking to her
-will fold her arms and say prayers
-can say lots of single words, no phrases yet
-will not say "please," but will sign it
-gets SO much attention anytime we go anywhere
-loves her stuffed ducky
-wants to skip sippy cups and move straight to regular cups (no lids)
-loves bathtime
-thinks it's funny when she does rebellious things like drink dirty pool and bath water
-tries to jump off the groud
-likes jumping in her crib
-stashes things all over the house
-likes to unload the dishwasher, regardless of whether it's clean or dirty
-loves making cookies
-likes playing with stickers
-loves attention
-likes singing "popcorn popping" with the hand actions
-does not want anyone on the computer unless it is her
-loves babies
-is not very good at sitting still at church
She'll be 14 months this week. It's hard to believe how big she's getting!
How to Beat the Heat?
I saw this article the other day, "100 ways to beat the heat." Some of them were pretty clever, so I thought I'd share. Of course, some of them were pretty stupid too, and you better believe I'm going to share those...
Most of the ideas were pretty typical "summerish" ideas, like
-go swimming
-nap under a fan
-wash the car
...no creativity there. then we get to some that are good ideas, just things you might not think up off the top of your head.
-take a walk through the mall
-make kool-aid popsicles
-stand under the air vent at walmart
then we cross the line to ridiculous. I couldn't help myself, I had to make comments about each one of these ideas. Feel free to try any of them... just don't tell anyone else.
-freeze your sheets and just before bedtime, make your bed and jump in-- OK, WHO REALLY LIKES MAKING THEIR BED EVERY DAY? ESPECIALLY WHEN THE SHEETS HAVE BEEN UNDERNEATH YOUR FROZEN CHICKEN? THIS CANNOT BE SANITARY. PASS.
-think cool, mind over matter does help-- DUMB. THIS DOES NOT WORK
-watch a documentary about polar bears-- THIS WILL NOT COOL YOU DOWN, IT WILL JUST MAKE YOU JEALOUS
-grab a handful of ice cubes and take bets on which will melt first-- OF COURSE, YOU'RE STANDING OUTSIDE ON THE CONCRETE, WHICH WILL MAKE YOU EVEN MORE HOT. GOOD THINKING
-stand in a bucket and collect your sweat, then water your plants-- RIIIGHT
then there were two that really caught my eye. I might try them, in combination of course.
-put your underwear in the freezer (YES, RIGHT UNDER YOUR SHEETS)
-turn yourself in to the police and sit in a 70 degree jail cell.
make sure you put the frozen underwear back on BEFORE heading to jail.

I ALMOST DIED TODAY
I really did. I almost had a heart attack. And it wasn't even because Brooklyn did something crazy that scared me. It was a bug. But a BIG bug. Remember that post from when we moved in 3 weeks ago? The post with the picture of the un-identifiable bug? Well, today I met it's mom/dad/sibling-- I'm not sure which. I didn't stop to ask it before it tried to eat me.

It had been a quiet morning. A few birds were singing outside. The sun was shining. Brooklyn woke up at her normal time and we ate breakfast like normal. I did a load of laundry and was working on the dishes. I was putting away the clean dishes in the left side of the sink when it saw me and thought, "I want to eat her." As I lifted the clean frying pan (which I later realized was contaminated with bug-ness and therefore needed to be cleaned again), I saw something move out of the corner of my eye. Luckily, the tap was on, so I quickly moved it so the water was running on the moving thing. And I say "luckily," because I'm pretty sure the bug was about to run up the side of the sink and leap across the kitchen to my arm, where it would then begin eating me. The water slowed it down enough that I could see what it was that was moving in my sinkload of dishes that shouldn't be moving. It was a relative. A relative of the bug that had managed to climb on the ceiling above the shower. You know how I know it was a relative? Not only did they look very genetically similar, but they both placed themselves in strategic locations (above the person showering and underneath a sinkload of clean dishes) to attack. THIS one though, was 5x as big.
Though the water was running and slowing the bug down, he continued to try to climb out of the sink to get revenge. I made a quick grab for a spatula without taking my eyes of the little devil. The spatula is what saved me, I know it. I used my long-handled spatula to keep him in the sink where the water was weakening him. He got weaker and weaker until I felt safe enough leaving for 2 seconds so I could find a glass jar. I tried to get him to climb into the glass jar but he was so weak he couldn't do it. The spatula came in handy again and I used it to force him inside, afterwhich I covered the jar with a plate. Then the jar and the plate went outside to the deck where they will sit until Tim gets home tonight.
Animal cruelty? I don't think so. Sometimes you have to shoot the bear before it eats you. Or... put the bug in an airtight jar that will sit in the sun all day so it can bake. Yuck. Hey, what were my other options? It might have killed us!
I still don't know what it is... but maybe it's best that way.

Domesticity?

So now that Tim is working everyday... I'm getting bored. Brooklyn and I have a pretty good routine set, but I need some ideas for things for me to do-- preferably ones that don't require me spending any money. That's the catch, I know. For example, I could make baby blankets, but then I would have to buy fabric. I could make cookies and cakes and candy, but then I would have to eat them, and then I would have to pay for lots of liposuction. I could go shopping, but clearly, I would be spending money. I could ... well, you get the idea.
With that said, I need some ideas. I am totally open to becoming more domestic and house-wifey. So what should I do all day?
I am a nerd
I was re-reading some posts from before and realized I have lots of spelling/grammatical mistakes in a lot of them. (now if this doesn't make me sound like a dork, I don't what could). And it was driving me nuts. So I'm sorry. This is my apology to all of you nerds that read any of my posts and the mistakes drive you nuts too. I obviously don't care a whole lot or I would edit the posts instead of making a whole new post about it for you to read and waste your time with... but that's ok!
Here's my excuse. When I'm blogging I am typing as fast as I possibly can because I have limited "Brooklyn nap" time. And when she's not napping and I'm blogging-- well, it's a race to type and publish before she turns the computer off or tries to steal the keyboard/mouse for herself. hmm.. I think I had another excuse too, but since I can't think of it right now... maybe I'll post again later.

EEEEEEE... why do we do it?
I was playing with Brooklyn the other day and realized that everything she was pointing to for me to name, I put an "eeee" sound on the end. Dog is now doggie, horse is now horsey, pig is piggy, duck is ducky, blanket is blanky, cat is kitty... you get the idea. Why am I doing this?! Are kids attracted to this "eeeee" sound?
Arizona= Majorly Flawed
I'm sure every state has it's flaws... but my first, and the only one I have to complain about Arizona so far is that they don't do daylight savings. I didn't think it would be that big of a deal... but I didn't realize the sun would be up before 5 AM every morning. That's ridiculous! I know, it's shocking, and you may not believe it, but trust me-- it's up. It definitely doesn't help our sleeping during the early morning. Apparently it doesn't help Brooklyn's sleeping either-- she was up before 6 today. Yay...

Happy 4th!
Climbing on everything
Brooklyn has developed the skill of climbing.
No, I haven't found her on top of the refridgerator yet, but I wouldn't be too surprised if I found her there tomorrow. The past few days she has been exploring climbing onto the couch and into her stroller.
The first time she climbed into her stroller she went over the front wheel, OVER the handbar, and into her seat. The second time, when I actually had the camera handy, she went under the handbar. Both of which looked impossible to me.

...And I thought her walking everywhere was bad. Now what do I do?

Where Do Monsters Come From?

Ever wonder why little kids-- and I mean really little kids-- seem to be scared of the dark? For the most part, I don't think it's because we expose them to horribly scary movies, music, or ideas right? Is being scared of the dark a "learned" behavior? I've been thinking about this alot for the past few weeks. It's amazing to me that Brooklyn will wake up when it's dark and be shreaking like she's afraid.
I don't know... maybe it comes back to the fact that we are drawn to light.
Here's another idea.
You know how you sneak back into your kids rooms at night to check on them before you go to bed? You know how sometimes they stir, and even wake up while you clumsily stumble around in the dark? And you know how you dive out the door when you realize that they are awake/waking up and have seen you?
Yup, that's where the fear of monsters in the dark comes from! It's you-- the parent, the MONSTER.

Happy Birthday Brooklyn!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROOKLYN!
We had a great party tonight with lots of family. Brooklyn got WAY TOO MANY presents, but I think she had a pretty good time. She even got the hang of opening presents up.
Now she has a carseat that she actually fits in, a keyboard to bang on when I'm on the computer, two new rubber duckies, snacks, a pool and pool toys, a puzzle, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a kitty cat she can call her own for two weeks, a doll, etc. Like I said, WAY too many things for a one year old. She is obviously very spoiled. :) But that's ok because it's her birthday right!?
If you can't tell, and it's hard to with the angle-- her cake has a mother duck with three baby ducklings on it. They turned out to be hybrid between chicks and ducks, but that's close enough right? What can I say-- Brooklyn loves ducks!

So tired...
The end of cake classes...
I finally finished my second cake class. I wanted to take the next one, but I would have had to miss too many of the classes. So instead, I'll relocate to AZ and take the classes there.
We put the color-flow we had been learning, on our cakes with the flowers that we had made throughout course 2-- that's why Tana and I both have flower cakes again. I did a turtle color-flow, so Tim suggested that I make a turtle cake. Chocolate ganosh, caramel, and pecans in between the cake layers= YUMMM. Although, surprisingly... it wasn't as good as I imagined it tasting. Oh well, it was a good experiment.
Tana was pro at making daisies so she made the daisy cake.
Ahh, good times driving to Cedar for cake class.

I know these pictures aren't that great, and neither are the cakes... but seriously, cake decorating is hard! But don't take my word for it...

Ahh, relaxing...
I am finding more and more moments when I so badly wish I had my camera on hand. The older Brooklyn gets, the funnier she gets. I really get a kick out of her sometimes. For once though, I actually had my camera. This is Brooklyn relaxing. This is the second time I saw her do this, and I still wonder who she learned it from...?
Strawberries with Aunt Emily
Brooklyn and I took a weekend break and headed up to visit Emily for a few days. We visited the duck pond again and Brooklyn managed to make it within just a few feet of the ducklings-- a feat hard for anyone, but especially a small child that has no idea what "sneaky" or "quietly" means yet.

She also managed to eat the majority of the 2 POUNDS of strawberries that Emily bought for a screaming deal. I wondered how it would affect her digestive system... and it did. But I tried to limit her intake of strawberries-- I really did. And being as she only had two teeth at the time, I cut/bit off bite size pieces for her. But she would have nothing to do with those pieces. Instead, she kept her eyes on the 1 pound containers at all times and whenever I wasn't looking she made her move. I found her several times with a whole strawberry in her mouth.

What else could I do but let her eat them?

Ever wonder what YOU look like sleeping?
I don't know what else to say about this picture, but do you "ever wonder what YOU look like when you're sleeping?" One of the best parts of my evening is going in to check on Brooklyn after she is asleep, and seeing what position she is in. Her strange contortions never ceases to amaze me and I always wonder how little kids can sleep in any position, and they're legs/arms/head, etc. never fall asleep. Is that something we just grow out of?
...it's too bad we don't have a picture showing how high her bum is up in the air. This is definitely a yoga pose..

Child dehydration solved by free water parks!
We went to the splash pad in St. G the other day and had a blast with Brooklyn and Austen. They were so funny together. Brooklyn liked the man-made creek and waterfalls the best, and I think Austen liked the fountain. Austen kept trying to drink from each fountain spray like it was a drinking fountain, and Brooklyn kept trying to pick up the water and eat it. Do you think they were dehydrated? Bizarre...
Fun in the Sun
Since taking up temporary residence in Enterprise, Brooklyn has had an increase in friends (yay!!!). Now she has a full-time buddy, whether he likes it or not. I'm glad Austen has been around to keep her occupied and distracted; it really does make the day go by faster, and it must be more fun for Brooklyn. Who doesn't like having someone their size around?! Austen is great with Brooklyn. He plays with her, humors her by crawling around with her, and even helps her eat her green beans off of her tray! They're pretty fun to watch together, and I love seeing what trouble they find together.
The other day we took the two little ones outside to play in the sprinkler. The grass was pretty pokey, and it was really windy, so the sprinkler idea didn't last too long... fortunately, they both enjoyed playing with the hose.
My Husband, the College Grad
My husband is officially a college graduate, and I couldn't be more proud and excited! He doesn't want to get his Masters, atleast not now, so for the time being, we are done with school!!! I think I was more excited about his graduation than mine... It was great. President Monson was the main Commencement speaker (how do you beat that...?). Tim's parents and myself were able to go to the main commencement, and then later in the afternoon my mom, Emily, Brooks, Miranda, and Brooklyn came to the individual college graduation.
I have the most wonderful husband in the world! He is funny, smart, such a hard-worker, VERY handsome, wonderful with Brooklyn, and so kind. I love you Tim!!!

Home at last...
Mom was able to stay a few days longer than Dad, so she came back down with us to Southern Utah. We didn't have a whole lot planned, but we managed to do some pretty fun things. Playing outside on the grass, going to Tim's graduation, relaxing, going to my cake class, going to see a few historical sites, and playing at the creek/splash pad. We're glad Emily could come down for a few days too.
(Sorry these pictures are mainly about Brooklyn. Weird how she's the focus of EVERYTHING. Don't worry, she's not spoiled!)
